Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface coated cutting tool having a hard coating layer exerting excellent chipping resistance and wear resistance in high speed intermittent cutting of a difficult-to-cut material. SOLUTION: In this surface coated cutting tool, (a) a lower part layer constituted of a Ti compound layer and (b) an upper part layer constituted of a laminated structure made of a composite oxide layer of Al and Zr having a value (atomic ratio) of Zr/(Al+Zr) of 0.0001 to 0.002 and a reformed α type aluminum oxide layer are formed on a surface of a tool base body. Each of the composite oxide layer of Al and Zr and the reformed α type aluminum oxide layer shows a crystal grain interface array where a crystal grain interface unit in which the mutually crossing angle of normals to the (0001) plane and normals to the {10-10} plane in the interface of crystal grains adjacent to each other is ≤15° occupies each of ≥35% and ≥45% of the whole crystal grain interface unit, as for the crystal gains constituting each of the layers. 【課題】 難削材の高速断続切削で硬質被覆層がすぐれた耐チッピング性と耐摩耗性を発揮する表面被覆切削工具を提供する。 【解決手段】 工具基体表面に、(a)Ti化合物層からなる下部層、(b)Zr/(Al+Zr)の値(原子比)が0.0001〜0.002であるAlとZrの複合酸化物層と、改質α型酸化アルミニウム層の積層構造からなる上部層を形成し、さらに、上記AlとZrの複合酸化物層と上記改質α型酸化アルミニウム層は、各層を構成する結晶粒について、隣接する結晶粒相互の界面における(0001)面の法線同士および{10−10}面の法線同士の交わる角度が15度以下の結晶粒界面単位が全結晶粒界面単位の、それぞれ35%以上および45%以上を占める結晶粒界面配列を示す。 【選択図】 図2
